Downloading a TikTok on an iPhone used to mean installing a dodgy app or letting a “repost” app see your account. Since iOS 13, Safari has a proper download manager, and that changes everything. A web page can now hand your iPhone a video file directly, which is all you need to save TikToks without the watermark.

This guide walks through the whole process: copying the link, saving the file in Safari, finding it in Files and moving it into your Photos camera roll. It also covers the handful of things that can go wrong. It takes about 30 seconds once you’ve done it once.

Before you start

  • Use Safari if you can. Chrome, Firefox and Edge on iPhone work too, but each handles downloads a little differently (see below). Safari gives the smoothest result.
  • Check your iOS version. Anything from iOS 13 onwards works. Go to Settings › General › About if you’re unsure.
  • Make some space. A 30-second HD TikTok is around 4 MB, so storage is rarely a problem, but a completely full iPhone will refuse to save anything.
  • Stay on Wi-Fi for long videos if you have a small data plan, or turn off Low Data Mode, which can pause downloads.

Step by step: save a TikTok on iPhone

Open the TikTok app and find the video. Tap the Share arrow on the right, then tap Copy link. TikTok shows a small “Copied” message. If you’re watching TikTok in a browser instead, copy the address from the address bar.

2. Open this page in Safari

Go to ssstiktok.store in Safari. Tip: tap the Share button in Safari, then Add to Home Screen. The downloader gets its own icon, so next time it’s one tap away.

3. Paste and tap Download

Tap the Paste button in the blue box. iPhone may ask “Allow Paste?”. Tap Allow Paste. Then tap Download. After a few seconds you’ll see a preview of the video with three buttons under it.

4. Choose your file

  • Download HD: the sharpest copy, usually 1080p. The best choice on iPhone.
  • Download: a smaller standard copy.
  • Download MP3: sound only.

Tap the one you want. Safari asks “Do you want to download …?”. Tap Download.

5. Watch the download finish

A small blue arrow appears in Safari’s address bar. Tap it to see the progress. When it’s done, the file is in the Files app.

Move the video into Photos

Files is where Safari keeps downloads, but most people want TikToks in the Photos app with the rest of their camera roll. It takes three taps:

  1. Open the Files app and go to Downloads. You can also tap the blue arrow in Safari and then the file name.
  2. Tap the video to open it.
  3. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow) and choose Save Video.

The video now appears in Photos › Recents. You can delete the copy in Files afterwards to save space; the one in Photos is separate.

Using Chrome, Firefox or another browser

All browsers on iPhone can download files, but they put them in slightly different places:

Browser What happens after you tap a download button Where to find the file
Safari Asks “Download?”, shows a blue arrow Files › Downloads
Chrome Shows a bar at the bottom with Open in… Tap Open in… › Save to Files, or Files › Chrome
Firefox Saves straight away Firefox menu › Downloads, then Share › Save Video
Edge Shows a download bar Edge menu › Downloads

In every browser, the last step is the same: open the file and use Share › Save Video to move it into Photos.

If the video opens in a new tab instead of downloading

On some older iOS versions, and in a few in-app browsers (for example when you open a link inside Instagram or Facebook), tapping the button plays the video on a black page instead of saving it. That’s fine. The video is still there:

  1. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Choose Save to Files, then pick Downloads and tap Save.
  3. Open it in Files and use Share › Save Video for Photos.

If you’re inside another app’s browser, tap the ⋯ menu and choose Open in Safari. Things work normally from there.

Change where Safari saves downloads

By default Safari saves to iCloud Drive › Downloads, which uploads every file to iCloud. If your iCloud storage is nearly full, save to the phone instead:

  • On iOS 18 and later: Settings › Apps › Safari › Downloads.
  • On iOS 13 to 17: Settings › Safari › Downloads.

Choose On My iPhone and pick a folder. Downloads will now stay on the device.

Why not just use TikTok’s own Save button?

TikTok’s built-in Save video option works, but:

  • it stamps the TikTok logo and @username on the video and adds an end card,
  • the logo moves around, so you can’t simply crop it out,
  • it’s missing entirely when a creator switches downloads off,
  • the saved copy is re-encoded to add the logo, so it’s slightly softer.

Downloading the clean stream here avoids all four. If you post your own TikToks to Instagram or YouTube as well, the clean copy matters even more. Our no-watermark guide explains why.

Troubleshooting on iPhone

Nothing happens when I tap a download button. Check Settings › Screen Time › Content & Privacy Restrictions. Restrictions on web content or iTunes & App Store purchases can block downloads in Safari. Parents’ and school-managed phones often have these switched on.

“Safari cannot download this file.” Usually the download link expired. Links last about 10 minutes, so paste the TikTok link again and tap the button straight away.

The video won’t play in Photos. Very rare on iPhone, because every model since the iPhone 7 plays H.265, the HD format. Try the standard Download button instead, which is H.264.

The video looks worse after I sent it to a friend. Messaging apps such as WhatsApp compress videos when you send them. The file on your iPhone is still the sharp one. Send it as a document in WhatsApp, or use AirDrop, to keep full quality.

“Allow Paste?” keeps appearing. That’s an iOS privacy prompt. To stop it, go to Settings › Apps › Safari (or Settings › Safari), tap Paste from Other Apps and choose Allow. Or long-press the box and tap Paste.

The download stopped halfway. Low Power Mode and Low Data Mode can pause background downloads. Keep Safari open until the blue arrow finishes.

Keep your saved TikToks organised

Once you start saving TikToks, they pile up among your own photos quickly. A few minutes of setup keeps them tidy.

Make an album. In Photos, tap Albums › + › New Album and name it “TikTok”. After each save, tap the video, tap Share and choose Add to Album. Your camera roll stays about your own pictures, and the saved clips are in one place.

Use the Hidden album for anything private. Videos you’d rather not show when handing your phone to someone can go in Hidden (Share › Hide). On recent iOS versions the Hidden album is locked with Face ID.

Watch your iCloud space. If iCloud Photos is on, every saved TikTok also uploads to iCloud. Fifty HD clips take about 200 MB, which is easy to forget on the free 5 GB plan. Check Settings › [your name] › iCloud now and then.

Clean up the Files copies. Each download stays in Files › Downloads even after you’ve saved it to Photos. Once a month, open Files › Downloads, tap Select, pick the videos you’ve already moved to Photos and delete them. They go to Recently Deleted in Files for 30 days, in case you remove one by mistake.

Back up the ones that matter. A video of a friend or a family moment can disappear from TikTok at any time if the account is deleted. Your saved copy in Photos is now the only one, so make sure Photos is backed up to iCloud or to a computer.

Saving TikTok sounds on iPhone

The Download MP3 button works the same way. The file goes to Files › Downloads, and you can play it straight from Files. The Music app can’t import MP3s directly on iPhone without a computer, so for listening, apps such as VLC (free) can play MP3s from Files. To turn a sound into a ringtone, our TikTok to MP3 page has the GarageBand steps.

On iPad

Everything above works on iPad. The one bonus is Split View: open TikTok on one side and Safari on the other, then copy and paste links without switching apps. That’s a quick way to save several videos in a row.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an app to download TikTok videos on iPhone?

No. Safari has had a built-in download manager since iOS 13, so a web page like this one can save the video straight to the Files app. You don't need an App Store app, a shortcut or a jailbreak.

Where do downloaded TikTok videos go on iPhone?

To the Files app, in the Downloads folder (iCloud Drive › Downloads or On My iPhone › Downloads, depending on your Safari setting). From there, Share › Save Video puts the clip in Photos.

How do I save a TikTok to my camera roll?

Download it here, open it in Files › Downloads, tap the Share button and choose Save Video. It appears in Photos under Recents, like any other video.

Why doesn't anything happen when I tap Download?

The most common reasons are Screen Time content restrictions, low storage, or a link that expired after 10 minutes. Paste the TikTok link again for fresh buttons. If Screen Time is on, check Content & Privacy Restrictions.

Will the video look worse after saving it?

No. The HD file is H.265 at up to 1080p, which iPhone plays natively. Quality only drops if you later send it through an app that recompresses it, such as WhatsApp.

Does this work on iPad?

Yes, the steps are identical. On iPad you can open TikTok and Safari side by side in Split View and paste links without switching apps.
